Alex DeGaris – Sketches from 2008 (2018)
‘Sketches from 2008’, is a 360-degree video work that features animated iterations of sketches from the artists’ teenage sketchbook. The work opens up private sketch books that contain imagery related to the formation of the artists’ identity in their teenage years. Sketches from 2008 presents these drawings in a virtual context highlighting parallels between identity formation in virtual worlds and within the act of drawing and writing.
Alex DeGaris is a contemporary artist and researcher who is undertaking a PhD at the University of South Australia later this year. DeGaris has exhibited nationally and their practice is primarily concerned with the intersections between network-based media and contemporary queer subjectivity.
